Transplanted
It's hard to believe I've been in Korea for more than a year, closer to two now. A stark contrast has emerged as I compare the lives of new expats just arriving in Korea for the first time to the ones who have been in this country, and experienced the honeymoon stage that comes from living in an excitingly different culture. It's almost like looking back at vintage home videos you made of yourself years ago. Only It's not you it's somebody else following a similar path as you once did.
Do you have a close friend who's had similar life experiences as you, only separately? I'm not talking about eating at the same restaurant, driving the same car or even skydiving. I mean the ones that are life altering. The ones with great meaning. Those who have uprooted themselves, left a place that they hold dear and familar, to plant themselves into new soil for an extended period of time should be able to relate. These people have an effortless bond between eachother. Their ideaology has crossed paths, and often times it runs parrallel.
We all have different reasons for moving, but the idea of moving and really living, soaking up the new the strange and sometimes exotic means a life full of adventure. If you enjoy plain spaghetti by all means eat it, but I'm here for the good stuff, and I'm coming back for seconds.
